…Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” Philippians 3:13
The devil would love to focus our attention and energy on what is behind us. He wants us to place our attention on past sins, failures, mistakes and guilt. When we do so, we miss the forgiveness Christ has given in order to make us new and to empower us to move forward. Paul will continue to tell the Church in Philippi to press on toward the goal of heaven and leave all of our “baggage” behind. I have heard the illustration about the reason why rear view mirrors in cars are so small and the front windshield is so big, because what happened in the past is not as important as what is coming in the future. I love that!
This is the mentality of the Christian who lives under grace. It is a way of life that focuses on Christ and all that He accomplished through the cross and the empty tomb. Jesus points us to a bright future and great hope. Look ahead and live the forgiveness won for you by Christ, the One Who has claimed your future for Himself!
Know that you are loved!
Peace and Joy,
Pastor Kilian
